Dorthy Moon turns 90 Years Young on June 16, 2016.The Moon family is excited to celebrate the 90th birthday of Dorthy Moon.She is a lifelong resident of South Bend, with the exception of several Snowbird winter retreats to Winter Haven, Florida. Dorthy has been married to Earl Grant Moon for 68 years, and they have two sons, Patrick and Phillip, two granddaughters, Rebecca and Andrea, and three great-grandchildren, Maria, Domenic and Regina.She attended Marquette Elementary, Muessel Junior High and Central High School during the time when the basketball coach at Central was none other than the legendary John Wooden. After high school Dorthy earned her RN degree at Epworth (later Memorial) Hospital, where she met Grant, who was there for an appendectomy after leaving the Army. She worked actively as a nurse into the 1990s.Dorthy is an accomplished bridge player, skilled knitter and talented seamstress. She was an avid golfer for many years. Her favorite song in the 1960's was "King of the Road", favorite car a 1958 black Buick Special, and favorite color is Blue (just check out their house). And at the age of 85 she and Grant took an Amtrak train to California to visit their son Phil, favorite daughter-in-law Carol and granddaughter Rebecca.Dorthy and Grant continue to enjoy their long lives together in their house in South Bend.
